Inspirational Folk Melodies
Conductor Ludovic MorlotHost Guy NobleSoloist Hyung Suk Bae, cello
Even though music for orchestra can sometimes be perceived as complex and elaborate, some of the greatest compositions drew on simple tunes of the day. Our final Music on Sundays concert for the year features a program of music inspired by folk songs. You’ll hear Brahms’ famous Academic Festival Overture, a joyous medley of drinking songs arranged for orchestra, Copland’s superb rendering of the tune Simple Gifts in his Appalachian Spring, and Dvořák’s lyrical Silent Wood which started life as a piano piece.
In this concert, Dvořák’s music will be presented in a gorgeous arrangement for cello and orchestra, featuring QSO cellist Hyung Suk Bae.
