Overview

Alondra de la Parra, Music Director of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra will be on maternity leave in April 2018 and thus unable to conduct the concert Dynamic Duo on the morning of Friday 13 April 2018. We are excited to announce that the replacement conductor for this concert will be British conductor and composer Alexander Prior. At age 25, he is the Chief Conductor of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra in Canada and we look forward to seeing him lead the Queensland Symphony Orchestra in this concert program.

Conductor Alexander Prior
Piano Sergio Tiempo (2018 Artist-in-Residence)

Ginastera Concerto No.1 for Piano and Orchestra, Op.28
Brahms Symphony No.4 in E minor, Op.98

Prepare yourself for a morning out-of-the-ordinary with a dynamic duo of works. Artist-in-Residence Sergio Tiempo performs Ginastera’s Piano Concerto No. 1, a complete firecracker of a work that never fails to bring the house down. This concerto takes us on a voyage of extremes from the pastoral to a pounding, percussive finale. The concert also features Brahms’ Fourth Symphony, a monumental work with grand architecture, rich harmonies and a soulful slow movement.

The Queensland Symphony Orchestra Music Director is proudly supported by Tim Fairfax AC. The Artist-in-Residence program is supported by the Trevor & Judith St Baker Family Foundation and The University of Queensland. Morning Masterworks is proudly supported by 4MBS Classic FM.
